Description
People in this occupation usually work eight- to twelve-hour shifts, possibly at night, and the conditions they face are physically demanding. They must often stoop and climb, as well as lift heavy equipment.
Safety is crucial on the work site, and all crew members must be able to follow instructions and safety procedures, acting quickly. Hazards include the risk of injury from moving equipment, falls from catwalks, and explosions.
Crew members may also have to travel each time the rig relocates, which means being away from home for long periods of time (weeks or months). The living arrangements provided at these times may be uncomfortable.
